I had the Holden version of the Suzuki Swift as one of my very first cars

Kinja'd!!!

to me, it was the epitome of slow car fast, we got that thing up on two wheels while rallying all the time

I can agree it is spacious with the rear seats out/down, I camped in mine all the time

I had a friend in high school that had a metro. That poor thing was so slow you had to turn of the A/C if you had any hope of hitting the end of the on ramp at highway speeds.

I had a couple of the Suzuki versions. Only the 3 doors, but they could hold an alarming volume of stuff.

I had one and it wasn’t too bad, but it was a manual so you could really wring it out. I’ve heard the autos are dreadful which I’m assuming is what your friend had.

hatchbacks are truly incredibly roomy, and of course with paper thin bodywork theres an extra inch or so of room you wouldn’t get from similarly sized more crash resistant cars
